Zhao Yilin from Russian Department of Our School Won the First-place Award in the V International Russian Olympiad "Lobachevsky/RU"

On March 31, 2023, the V International Russian Olympiad “Lobachevsky/RU” was held by the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. Zhao Yilin, a senior studentmajoring in Russian at the School of Foreign Languages of Renmin University of China, clinched the first place in the C1 category ('Advanced Language User') with her solid professional skills and outstanding performance. Additionally, representing the contestants, Zhao Yilinwas invited by the organizing committee of the competition to deliver a speech in Russian during the award ceremony.
946 contestants in total participated in the International Russian Olympiad. They hailed from 84 countries, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Egypt, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Serbia, Moldova, Colombia, and etc. After two rounds of selection, 101 contestants were permitted advance to the final when the winners of the first-place, second-place, and third-placeawards were determined.
The competition, lasting for one month,was held online and divided into three stages. The first round involves prepared speeches, where participants choose one topic from three ones below: 'The Extraordinary Traditions of My Country', 'A Journey Throughout Russia: 10 Unusual Places,' or 'The Unique Character of My Country' and record a speech video of no more than 5 minutes. The second round is an individual interview where participants converse one-on-one with members of the judging panel and answer questions. The third round, or the final, focuses on evaluating the contestants' linguistic prowess and quick thinking. Participants are paired randomly and must engage in an improvised dialogue based on scenarios provided by the judges.
At the award ceremony, Zhao Yilin remarked that the questions and feedback from the experts were highly beneficial and that the competition encourages participants to think and express their country's cultural traditions in Russian, and to strive to become 'cultural ambassadors' among different civilizations. Additionally, the competition provides a platform for Russian learners from different countries to exchange and learn from each other, motivating everyone to make progress in learning Russian.
Zhao Yilin, the student of our school, challengedherselfand achievedremarkable results in the International Russian Olympiad.
