Professor Zheng Binghan from Durham University Visits the School of Foreign Languages for Discussions and Delivers an Academic Lecture

On the morning of May 26, 2023, Professor Zheng Binghan from Durham University visited the School of Foreign Languages of Renmin University of China, engaging in discussions and delivering an academic lecture.

The discussion was chaired by Professor Wang Jianhua, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages. Professor Zhu Yuan, Director of the MTI Education Center, Professor Niu Yunping, Deputy Director of the MTI Education Center, and Associate Professor Feng Jia from the English Department also participated. The two sides held in-depth discussions on potential future collaborations in international exchanges and talent cultivation, expressing a shared expectation for promoting cooperative exchanges between the two schools and universities.



Following the discussion, Professor Zheng delivered an academic lecture titled “Research on the Cognitive Process of Translation and Publishing in International Journals” for the faculty and students. Using the example of the translation cognition research team at Durham University, Professor Zheng analyzed the main research directions and major findings in translation cognition over the past five years. He also provided an in-depth analysis of successful cases in translation cognition research, covering topic selection, experimental design, and data analysis. Drawing from his extensive experience in journal submissions, Professor Zheng offered valuable insights into the preparation, writing, revision, and publication processes for 11 SSCI and 3 A&HCI journals in the field of translation studies.

Professor Wang Jianhua concluded the lecture by expressing that the School of Foreign Languages places great importance on interdisciplinary and innovative research from an international perspective, employing diverse research methodologies. He hoped that this academic lecture could inspire new ideas and provide fresh direction for both faculty and students in their academic pursuits.



Zheng Binghan is Chair Professor of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University, PhD supervisor of Translation and Linguistics, and Director of the Center for Intercultural Mediation. He is an Honorary Fellowship of Chartered Institute of Linguists (HonFCIL), a member of UK Research and Innovation Council, and a by-fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge University. He is also a distinguished or visiting professor of Nankai University, Dalian University of Technology, and other renowned universities. His research interests include the study of cognitive processes in interpreting and translation, and cognitive neuroscience of translation.
