From April 2 to 10, 2005, the second “Stars of Hope” English contest held at Renmin University of .

Sponsored by New Oriental English School , the contest aimed at demonstrating the English ability as well as manners of college students in Beijing . It consists of four parts: vocabulary, speaking, anchoring, and English songs.

The preliminary contest was organized by the Students Union of the School of Foreign Languages . In Order to make it a success, many of our fellow students contributed their time, energy, and enthusiasm. The union set up four working groups, each responsible for one part of the contest, which proved to be very successful.

The working groups took care of both important and trivial matters of the context in advance, organizing the contests as well as creating good atmosphere in the contest. Every detail was taken into careful consideration in order to make the contest successful. Professors and foreign teachers were invited to be judges at the contest, which guaranteed the contest to be a fair game.

Finally, contestants won the first, second and third prizes in every part of the contest,  and two best contestants of each part were chosen to participate in the higher contest. The contest was warmly received by many students as well as teachers. It proved to be a successful contest, through which not only contestants for higher contests were selected but also our ability in organizing such an event was improved greatly. We are confident that we will do even better in the future.
